Dawn in Peniscola. Marine Boulevard and Papa Luna's Avenida

I started my second day in Peniscola before dark, and after admiring from the walls of the fortress a wonderful picture of the still sleeping town, I went for a walk in the resort part of the city.

The Northern shore of the isthmus connecting the fortress with the land forms a small Bay, along the shore of which runs a wide Marine Boulevard (Avinguda de la Mar on the map).

Here you can see several modern sculptures decorated with ceramic tiles.

One of the sculptures depicts a sea dragon, this place is popular with holidaymakers with children.

The Avenida de La Mar passes into Peniscola's main promenade, the Avenida Papa Luna. The embankment is a wide palm-lined Avenue lined with hotels, restaurants, cafes, discos - this is the center of the town's night life.

Большинство отелей в этот период закрыто, на окнах опущены жалюзи. В немногих действующих заведениях, пользуясь фантастическими скидками (15-20 евро за сутки), отдыхают небогатые испанские пенсионеры, по вечерам азартно отплясывая в дискотеках под рок-н-роллы 60х годов.

Со стороны набережной открывается лучший вид на старинную крепость с замком, построенным в 14 веке рыцарями ордена тамплиеров.
